Synthesis and design of multi-dimensional multi-rate VLSI arrays

P. Lenders · 2002

In a previous report it was shown that a class of nonuniform algorithms termed directional uniform recurrence equations (DUREs) could be mapped onto multirate array (MRA) structures where the variables are propagated at different rates achieving higher speedup and efficiency. The author examines the structure of MRAs and reports extensions of the synthesis methodology for multidirectional DUREs. The author considers algorithms in terms of affine recurrence equations (AREs). After defining ARE and MRA, the author presents necessary and sufficient conditions for a valid mapping on an MRA of an algorithm defined in terms of AREs. Application and implementation of multidirectional MRAs for image processing and multidimensional algorithms are presented.>
