Adaptive LMS filter receivers for a convolutionally coded CDMA system

S. Kazi, L. Lucke, L.B. Nelson · 2002

We demonstrate that the use of convolutional codes with adaptive filter receivers can significantly improve the bit error rate of a code division multiple access (CDMA) system. A system model is proposed to allow the study of convolutional coding in a CDMA system with both additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and a Rayleigh fading channel. Coding is shown to provide improved response to both the near-far problem and the multipath problem. We show that one can achieve coding gain of 2 dB in AWGN channel and 2.5 dB in Rayleigh fading channel.
