People have been using visual sensors to setup surveillance systems for more than ten years. In the beginning, most were analog, and finally became digital, which are better with noise control and signal processing. However, just because we have digital visual sensors does not mean that we have a complete digital visual surveillance system. In this paper, the authors propose a hardware-based digital surveillance system. It needs several related but separate technologies to make the proposed structure feasible. In the next few subsections, the authors discuss these technologies, followed by the discussion of the analog video surveillance system in comparison to the digital platform that the authors propose in this paper. 1.
