For pt.1 see ibid., p.116-17 (2003).This second part of the paper motivates the use of adaptive estimation of the DC offset at the receiver and gives an interpretation of the result furnished by a joint optimization over the DC offset estimate and the equalizer parameters of the constant modulus cost function. It is shown that, for an arbitrary DC offset, the CM cost function admits spurious local minima in terms of equalizer settings. Extrema of the cost function in terms or a DC offset are derived and classified, and simple effective adaptive methods for DC offset estimation are discussed. It is shown that these methods lead to equalizer settings equivalent to those furnished by CM equalization with an unbiased source.
