PARAMETERS 4.1.1Based on the values obtained from Reference 5.6, Table 7.7-3, page 96, the maximum WP surface dose rate is estimated to be approximately 37.99 remihr. CRITERIAThe following design criteria were developed to respond to Repository Design Requirements document (RDRD)(Reference 5.3) requirements that specifically apply to this design .analysis.RDRD requirements are cited for each criteria statement. 4.2.1The design and implementation of a remote control system for emplacement operations will enhance the safety of workers by allowing the operators to be removed from the dust, heat, radiation and inherent dangers of an underground operation.(RDRD 3.3.6.2.A, 3.3.6.3.F) 4.2.2The design and implementation of a remote control system for emplacement operations will limit radiation exposure to humans and allow compliance with as low as is reasonably achievable (ALARA) guidelines for occupational doses.(RDRD 3.2.2.1.A, 3.2.2.1.B, 3.2.4.5.2, 3.7.3.7.A) 4.2.3The remote control system will be designed with redundant features and selfdiagnostic capabilities so that overall reliability of the system will be enhanced under all operating conditions.(RDRD 3.2.5.1, 3.2.5.1.4.A, 3.2.5.1.4.B, 3.2.5.1.5,3.2.5.2.5.A, 3.5.1.1.1.C) 4.2.4The remote control system will be designed for at least a 100-year maintainable life.(RDRD 3.2.5.4) (TBV)--. 4.2.5The remote control system shall be equipped with suitable backup power supply to ensure operability of essential functions during loss of the primary electric power circuit.(RDRD 3.3.6.1 1 .B) 4.2.6A remote control and data communication backbone shall be installed in the repository to facilitate maintainable and reliable remote control of subsurface activities from surface locations.(RDRD 3.7.3.4.A.4) 4.2.7 The WP emplacement control system design shall include explosion and fire detection alarm systems and appropriate suppression systems with sufficient capacity and capability to reduce the adverse effects of-fires and explosions on systems, structures, and components (SSCs) important to safety.(RDRD 3.2.1.7.A) 4.2.8The SSCs important to safety shall be designed to perform their safety functions during and after credible fires or explosions in the underground repository.(RDRD 3.2.1.7.C)
