Multi-Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Coverage Planner for Area Surveillance Missions

Phil Jones, Liang Tang, George Vachtsevanos · AIAA Guidance, Navigation, and Control Conference and Exhibit · 2007

Aerial surveillance by unmanned vehicles is a challenging task with numerous real-world applications. In many situations it is desirable to increase the revisit rate of a surveillance operation by increasing the number of vehicles assigned to the task. Vehicle dynamics and real-time operation are critical components of an automated aerial surveillance system. This paper describes a multi-vehicle path planner that guarantees complete coverage of the surveillance area while avoiding excessive computational overhead, allowing for realtime operation. Results from simulation are presented.
