In this paper, we are concerned with security for Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs). Due to the decentralized and self-organizing MANET nature, which implies no direct trusted relationships among nodes, threshold secret sharing algorithms can play a key role in solving the problem of single point of failure in the traditional public-key infrastructure (PKI) architecture. We first motivate the need for efficient secret sharing techniques by reviewing security requirements for MANETs with a view of creating a prototype implementation, focusing on threshold cryptographic techniques for key management solutions. With the aim of designing a computationally lightweight secret sharing scheme, we then propose a novel technique for multi-secret sharing that will improve some aspects of the key management.
