Alternative strategies with slot reuse on DQDB networks
José María Quinteiro-González, J.D. Sandoval, Julio Berrocal · 2002
The DQDB (Distributed Queue Dual Bus) is a component part of the standard IEEE 802.6 and it deals with the physical and data link layer. It defines a high-speed shared medium access protocol. In this paper, a slot reusing strategy is used to improve the behaviour of the basic DQDB model. Three new alternatives are analysed: (a) more than 1 PSR bit (i.e. 2 or 3 bits), (b) transition from the BUSB state to the FREE state directly, and (c) releasing the slot even when the station is not sure that any downstream station will take the slot.>
