In this paper authors propose a wireless thermocouples network purposely developed for plastic machinery. Thanks to a very simple protocol, based on IEEE802.15.4 physical layer, up to sixteen nodes are scanned with a cycle time of 128 ms. Prototypes based on J type thermocouples have been realized with cost similar to wired approaches. A four-nodes network has been tested in a real environment. First experimental results, with a low standard deviation (less than 0.3°C in a range of 0-400°C) and a good quality of service (less than 1 s of consecutive lack of information from nodes), demonstrates feasibility of the proposed solution.
