Novel prefilter structure for digital filter design

An ‘omnipotent’ prefilter structure is proposed which we call the recursive Hartley filter (RHF). This is the only prefilter proposed to have the ability to design the low-pass, band-pass and high-pass digital filters simultaneously. This prefilter can be combined with an appropriately designed ‘equalizer’ based on equiripple methods, leading to efficient FIR digital filter designs. Design examples are included, demonstrating the simplicity and power of the RHF-based filters.
