Threshold-based magnitude difference function pitch determination algorithms

Variations of the widely used ‘average magnitude difference function’ (AMDF) algorithm for pitch determination are developed. They are called ‘threshold-based MDF’ (TMDF) and FasTMDF PDAs and incorporate significant computational improvements. Tests and comparisons for all the algorithms discussed are also presented. Real-time implementation is considered both on programmable and special-purpose DSPs. Comparison of execution times on the TMS32020/C25 and the DSP56001 are also included.
