In recent years, corpus-based research has gained considerable momentum in linguistics, overtaking arm chair type observations on natural language with a more empirical bias towards linguistic description. Particularly in Natural Language Processing, the availability of large annotated corpora has significantly advanced research in the field, providing highly efficient linguistic analysis tools for many different domains. But, although numerous publications deal with the exploitation of these corpora, not a great deal of information is out there describing how exactly to build them.
