Quality Assessment Of Complete Spot-dems With Digital Multi-source Data
Jan‐Peter Müller, Thomas George Day, M. O'Neill, M. Upton · 2005
Summary form only given. A quality assessment has been performed of complete stereo SPOT pairs using grid-point-interpolated digitized map source material. This includes digitized 1:50,000 maps of the UK and 1:24,000 maps of the US. A quality assessment of the GEODEM results has been made using these source materials involving almost a million gridded digital elevation model (DEM) points. Differences between the SPOT DEM and map DEMs can be ascribed to cartographic and generalization errors as well as systematic differences caused by poor ground control. The relationship between error magnitudes and internal quality measures is explored for a variety of different data sets, and conclusions are drawn for the future production of quality metrics for stereo-matched SPOT DEMs.
