Abstract Glow discharge polymerization in the CF2Cl2/CH4, CHF2Cl, and CHFCl2 systems was performed. The materials formed are not polymers but oligomers; they contain considerable chlorine and fluorine and their surface energies are not so low as those of the polymers from the CF4/CH4 mixture. These materials dissolved in organic solvents and their molecular weights were measured. In glow discharge polymerization of methylmethacrylate the addition of CHFCl2 caused formed polymers to be soluble in organic solvents. This polymerization is discussed.
