Internal wave packet characterization from SAR images using wavelet transform modulus maxima (WTMM)

This paper addresses the problem of the characterization of oceanic internal wave packets from SAR images. Wavelet analysis provides a new strategy for examining internal wave signatures, and offers the flexibility which results from the introduction of well-suited basis functions. The continuous wavelet transform (CWT) is employed in a scale-space analysis of SAR image profiles to locate and characterize the local scaling properties and the wave parameters of internal waves.
