Effect of chip shaping on the performance of band-limited multicarrier CDMA systems

Ha H. Nguyen · 2003

This paper investigates the effect of chip waveform shaping on the multiple access interference (MAI) in bandlimited multicarrier CDMA (MC-CDMA) systems. It is demonstrated that, compared to single carrier CDMA (SC-CDMA) systems, chip waveform shaping has much smaller influence on the performance of MC-CDMA systems. It is also shown that the optimum chip waveform for MC-CDMA systems is practically the same as that of a SC-CDMA system. A criterion for the performance comparison of different bandlimited chip waveforms based on the elementary density function is introduced. Finally, the effect of varying the roll-off factor of a bandlimited chip waveform on the MAI level is also investigated.
