Inter-hospital Tele-radiology Via Integrated Service Digital Networks And Local Area Networks

The existing Copper Links of the telephone networks can provide low cost connectivity for inter-hospital or clinic-tohospital data communications, consistent with the trend of Tele-Radiology or PACS (Picture Archiving Communication System). In this paper, we present and discuss a personal computer (PC) based Tele-Radiology solution via the ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) connectivity. The PC image view-stations and ISDN stations are also connected to a LAN (Efhernet) with capabilities of distributed image processing and system expansion. A Time-Domain SubBand Coding algorithm is used to achieve 10:l to 25:l image compressions without noticeable distortion.
