APPLIED HISTORICAL LINGUISTICS: SOCIO‐HISTORICAL LINGUISTIC EVIDENCE FOR THE AUTHORSHIP OF RENAISSANCE PLAYS1
By Jonathan Hope · Transactions of the Philological Society · 1990
ABSTRACT This paper presents a new type of evidence for the authorship of Renaissance plays. Taking the form of a test case on Shakespeare and Fletcher's Henry VIII, the paper demonstrates how differing rates of usage of grammatical variables can be used to identify the hands of collaborators.
