S-Box Design Approaches: Critical Analysis and Future Directions

Shanoo Garg, Divya Upadhyay · International journal of advanced research in computer science and electronics engineering · 2013

Information security is highly crucial in today’s world with a large number of applications and high stakes because of the sensitivity of the information. Several researches are going on to design tools and techniques for safe transmission of data. The field of cryptography is integral part of information security system. It is important to design cryptographically strong S-boxes for secure systems. The methods discussed and analyzes make full use of the traits of chaotic systems and evolution process. The results of performance test show that the chaos-based S-box has good cryptographic properties and chaotic system can be used to obtain stronger S-boxes.
