Simple Q factor monitoring for BER estimation using opened eye diagrams captured by high-speed asynchronous electrooptical sampling

We propose a new signal-quality (Q factor) monitoring method that uses opened eye diagrams captured by asynchronous sampling. The use of high-speed asynchronous electrooptical sampling makes fixed timing Q factor monitoring simple to perform. The method is experimentally compared to the existing averaged Q factor method.
