After a brief introduction containing the description of the main sources of mechanical vibrations and the impact in the industrial environment, this paper presented a novel implementation of a general purpose monitoring and analysis system for mechanical vibrations. In the configuration proposed in this work the system is intended to be used to analyze and monitor the mechanical vibration of industrial machines. The main parts of the system are three: a data acquisition board connected to a personal computer, the vibration sensors, and the analysis and control software which in this case is realized in LabVIEW graphical programming environment. The main advantage of the presented solution in comparison with other similar implementations is represented by its flexibility. It can be relatively easy adapted to operate also in other similar applications which imply mechanical vibration analyses, such as: geodynamics/vibrations monitoring system; highway, bridge or towers surveillance systems. Also, the equipment is easy to use, easy extendable to work with more sensors, can be installed quickly, has a friendly graphical interface and is not expensive
