A unified analysis of connectivity and throughput in packet radio networks

Pedro Pintó, Moe Z. Win · 2008

Packet radio networks have been widely used for data communications in military scenarios. The performance of such network, traditionally measured by its packet throughput, can be limited by the interference generated by the network itself. Therefore, it is important to characterize the impact of the interference on the throughput of any given link. In this paper, we present a unifying framework for the analysis of connectivity and throughput in wireless networks. We consider that the wireless terminals are randomly scattered in space according to a Poisson point process. The proposed framework is invariant with respect to the type of wireless propagation effects and traffic pattern. Our work generalizes and unifies various results in the literature, providing insights that may be of value in the design of wireless military networks.
