Optimal protocol parameters for ARQ schemes over frame relay GEO and LEO satellite networks

Malleswara Talla, Ahmed K. Elhakeem, Michel Kadoch · 2002

The ARQ transport users are assumed to be transmitting over an M-node virtual circuit, in order to analyze the throughput and delay characteristics using the Norton equivalent queuing model. The service characteristic of the model, is obtained from the end-to-end protocol efficiency or go-back-N and selective repeat ARQ schemes. The analysis is applied to the geostationary orbit and the low Earth orbit satellite links to identity the optimal end-to-end ARQ flow control parameters, i.e., packet and window sizes, and bandwidth in bits per second, for better throughput and low end to-end delay.
