Modeling of complex systems using hierarchically represented Petri nets

We show how to model complex systems using hierarchically represented (HR) Petri nets, introduce our concept of hierarchy in this context, and suggest a methodology for applying HR Petri nets for modeling. We then describe tools for supporting this approach. A modeling of a medium sized example, a pipelined processor, is given for illustration.
