Noise reduction in recursive digital filters using optimal and suboptimal error feedback

The normal form of narrow bandpass digital filters is shown to be suitable for the application of error feedback to reduce roundoff error noise. The problem of solving for the optimal (minimum noise) feedback coefficients is addressed for normal and direct form recursive digital filters. A suboptimal solution, useful for reducing implementation costs, is also presented.
