Determining external contention delay due to job interactions in a 2-D mesh wormhole routed multicomputer

Job interactions may cause performance degradations in massively parallel processors (MPP) that serve multiple independent jobs simultaneously. To provide insight for developing a processor allocation model of a MPP, we predict the average external contention delay due to job interactions in a 2-D mesh wormhole-routed multicomputer. Based on a proposed heterogeneous two-path contention model, we provide expressions to predict the average external contention delay, which is verified by simulation. We describe how the external contention delay between the jobs increases as the internal contention delay within a job increases.>
