Digital Image Recognition Of Brain Capillaries For Morphometric Analysis
J.A. Goyettel, Gregory D. Lapin · 2005
A procedure for recognition of capillaries applied to microscopic images of histologically prepared brain tissue is presented. Two steps to locating capillaries are: I) filtering to enhance edges and 2) thresholding to distinguish capillaries from the rest of the image. These result in binary images with different information that are combined into a third image containing the desired capillary edges. Each of these steps has an error in determining actual capillary edges; the combination minimizes these errors. Once the capillaries have been recognized, morphometric analysis is performed to obtain relative locations, areas, least diameters, and greatest diameters of the capillaries.
