Manifold interpolation for diversely polarised arrays

A.J. Weiss, B. Friedlander · IEE Proceedings - Radar Sonar and Navigation · 1994

Antenna arrays need to be calibrated to produce reliable direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimates. During the calibration process, the array response vector (also called the array manifold) is measured and stored, for a finite number of directions. Most DOA estimators are based on evaluating a specific cost function at all of the directions for which the array manifold was stored. The direction which minimises (or maximises) the cost function is the initial DOA estimate. Interpolation between adjacent directions is then used to obtain a more accurate estimate. The authors examine the interpolation problem for diversely polarised arrays and propose interpolation techniques that provide precise DOA and polarisation estimates.
