On a heat transfer problem related to alpine ski racing

Abstract: We investigate a problem concerning damage on the running base on high speed alpine skis, that may be due to excessive heating. We carry out computations that indicate that heat transfer between the steel edges and the running base may actually be the reason for this, and discuss how to prevent such damage.
