Classification of tuffs

Abstract A classification system of tuffs is devised in which the triangular relationship of crystals, vitric material, and lithic material is expressed, with a central area for those tuffs which contain appreciable amounts of all three components. New definitions of composite and crystal-lithic tuff are presented.
