Experiences in teaching an advanced computer graphics course

G. Scott Owen · ACM SIGCSE Bulletin · 1990

With the increasing emphasis on the use of Computer Graphics in Computer Science and elsewhere more schools are beginning to offer advanced courses in Computer Graphics, either at the undergraduate or the graduate level.Whereas there are many good textbooks for an introductory course the same is not true for an advanced course. The course content and external references for such a second course are in a state of rapid flux. This paper discusses the author's experiences in teaching a second Computer Graphics course and his reconmnendations both for course content and reference material.INTRODUCTIOll The discipline of Computer Graphics has had an immense growth over the past few years. This is primarily due to the increasing capabilities of computer hardware, both in terms of processing power, memory capacity, and graphics adapters and monitors. It is now possible to use personal computers to develop and use graphics applications, as well as teach graphics algori thms, that would have required expensive display devices and mainframe systems just a few years ago tOWEN893 .
