SCREW -ON MULTIPLE CONNECTORSExperimenters desiring a secure but detachable connector for multiple-con- ductor cables might consider Amphenol's "heavy duty radio connectors."Like the familiar AN type, these connectors screw together with athreaded ring.A special virtue, however, is that both the eight-and twelve-pin series mate with standard circular-arrangement ("octal type") plugs and receptacles. This facilitates tran- sitions in instrumentation within the laboratory or exchanges of equipment between laboratories.ComparedwithAmphenol' s latch-shell Blue Ribbon connectors: (a) the screw-on type takes longer to connect and disconnect; (b) the male version is more difficult to solder; but (c) the receptacle may be easier to mount (circular hole); and (d) the prices run considerably lower.Panel-mounting twelve-pin receptacles, for example, currently net at less than a dollar (Amphenol 79-PO12F and 79-PO12M)and the plugs at slightly more than a dollar (79-012F and 79-012M).To order eight- pin receptacles, substitute 8 for 12 in the code number.
