The challenge of VLSI technology to low-bit-rate video
T.R. Hsing · International Symposium on VLSI Technology, Systems, and Applications · 2003
An overview is presented of video compression techniques that allow the transmission of full-motion, high-quality video at adequate low bit rates. Various techniques including intraframe coding and interframe coding are reviewed. The up-to-date research and development results relating to VLSI (very-large-scale-integration) implementation are described. Special emphasis is placed on single-chip implementations for the discrete cosine transform (DCT), vector quantization (VQ), and motion detection and compensation.>
