The Construction of a Comprehensive Lexical Network
Jerker Järborg · Literary and Linguistic Computing · 1988
The material for the lexical network of the title is a data base of some 66,000 defined lexemes, covering the essential parts of the Swedish vocabulary. The syntactico-semantic structures of the definitions are analysed and tagged, thus converting the lexemes into formal objects, viz. dependency trees with labelled branches. The resulting set of formalised lexemes constitutes a very complex potential network, in which many semantic relations, besides the basic hierarchical one, are latently present and may be physically established as links. The network will be used as a powerful tool in lexicological research and is capable of being developed into a machine lexicon for computational semantic processing.
