*Benchmarking comparisons based on synthetics such as LINPACK provide insights into the extents of the performance space, but rarely reveal enough information to ascertain an architecture’s performance on an actual application. Therefore, this paper provides performance and scalability analysis for two computational fluid dynamics codes, AERO and AVUS, on nine different supercomputer architectures within the High Performance Computing Modernization Program. Of the currently available architectures, the IBM P4+ and the HP SC45 are determined to be best-suited for AERO and AVUS, respectively.
