A system design for the monitoring of the security of integrated transportation systems is presented. Such systems are typically a diverse mixture of public and private networks that share information in order to provide a broad range of transportation services. It is imperative that the members of these integrated systems be aware of the status of the other participants in order to be able to anticipate security events and take appropriate actions. The alternative is the current approach, where members often read about security intrusions in the newspaper the following day. The system is designed to use data fusion to provide system monitoring and feedback to all members of the integrated ITS. The system is state-based and is designed to be 1) easy to implement, 2) require minimal bandwidth, and 3) require minimal system requirements for each member of the network. The authors present a conceptual overview of the system and a developed prototype system that demonstrates the concepts discussed. They also describe the proposed architecture for a fully implemented system
