specific requirements of spaceborne image com- pression are outlined. DCT compression complies well with these requirements. A dedicated design for use in the Huygens-DISR-camera is presented and com- pared to the commercical JPEG standard. Especially the potential versitality in tailoring the design to spe- cific application profiles is emphazised and illustrated by simulation results.
