User Perspectives And Design Considerations For Medical Expert Systems
Chuck Williams, William M. Lively · 2005
This paper discusses several items which should be considered in the design of medical expert systems. Three synergistic areas of expert system design are introduced and discussed in light of the possible applications of expert systems to medicine. These are system requirements, implementation methodology, and implementation tools. System requirements are viewed as the primary component of interest in this discussion of expert systems because of their role in determining implementation methodology and tools. User considerations such as ranking, explanation capabilities, and maintenance are discussed in light of implementation methodology and tool choice. Other characteristics, such as certainty and reasoning methods, are discussed as important factors the user must consider when evaluating an expert system.
