Computer simulations are described which demonstrate the relative performance of a repetition code and a cyclic code, of the same code rate, within a channel consisting of random single-bit errors. The performance of each code is measured in terms of the message success rate and the average error rate present in the bit stream after the decoding process. Results obtained show that the repetition code has a better performance than the cyclic code for high channel error rates.
