Static Assignment Of Processes To Microcomputers In A Dedicated Application

The static assignment of predefined processes to a set of similar microcomputers for use in a process control application is considered. The goal is to minimize the number of computers required. A general solution is presented which involves solving a sequence of packing problems. A faster, suboptimal technique is also presented together with suggestions for its application.
