Uplink Receiver Design based on Particle Filtering for SDMA Digital Communication Systems

Yuji Meng, Qinye Yin, Ke Deng · 2007

This paper addresses the application of particle filtering to DOA estimation and tracking, adaptive uplink beam- forming and multiple user separation in SDMA digital com- munication systems. According to the aposteriori probabilities provided by the particle filter, uplink receivers are designed for both AWGN channel and time-selective channel. In AWGN channel, transmitted symbols can be directly detected at the output end of the particle filter. In time-selective channel, channel coding is introduced to combat fading, and correspondingly two different receiver structures without channel estimation are proposed: one is to concatenate a Viterbi / MAP decoder to the output of the particle filter; the other is to employ the particle filter as the first stage demodulator and the MAP channel decoder as the second stage demodulator to construct a turbo receiver. Finally, the performance of the proposed particle filter receivers is demonstrated through computer simulations.
