We formulate singular gradient o w equations by the notion of subdieren tial. Char- acterization of the subdieren tial operator in the Sobolev space with negative power H 1 enables us to calculate the initial speed of a solution solving the subdieren tial formulation of the fourth order singular parabolic equation which models a crystalline surface driven by surface diusion.
