A METHODOLOGY FOR INTERFACE ARCHITECTURE DESIGN TO SUPPORT E-BUSINESS APPLICATIONS

Seung C. Lee, Jinsoo Park · 2001

Specifying the interface for Web applications is more complex than ever before because of their growing functionality, a rapid advance in Web technology, and an increasing need of integration with legacy applications. Web applications perform more and more functions because the Web is gaining ground as a business computing platform as companies race to transform their businesses into e-businesses. Web technology is rapidly advancing to meet the computing need that demands more interactive and dynamic delivery of information. Furthermore, Web applications often are integrated with existing applications and frequently utilize software components. All the developments contribute towards the increased importance of providing transparency to the application users, and, hence, call for a more systematic and methodical approach to the specification of Web application interface. In response, we propose an interface architecture design methodology founded on the concepts of meta-information structure and information structure, as well as taking account of various page, link, and component types. They are rigorously utilized in the activities of the meta-information structure analysis and information structure analysis to arrive at well-formed interface specifications for Web-based e-business applications.
