Investigation of a cost function for blind equalization based on the Nakagami fading index

A.L. Brandão, Des McLernon, Luis B. Lopes · 2002

Radio signals arriving from cellular mobile systems in urban areas can be modelled as a random process having the Nagakami-Rice probability density function. This assumption is made in order to design a receiver for combating the effects of multipath propagation for M-ary PSK modulated signals. A parameter based on the Nagakami fading index is explored and taken to construct a cost function to be minimized. The error surface is investigated and some strategies are examined for designing an equalizer. A modified constant modulus algorithm is presented and simulations are performed to test the efficiency of the proposed filter.>
