Bringing vendors and users together

The view into the futuristic computerized crystal ball is not only foggy, but appears to be dark as well. One of the cloudy arenas concerns software. In an attempt to shed some light on that subject, the University of South Dakota is providing for its campus computer users a comprehensive site license program. The word "comprehensive" is carefully chosen as we all know that it is impossible to satisfy all of our different users. Our goal is to make available, at a reasonable cost, some of the best and most progressive software products used by the majority of the departments for research and classroom instruction. The problem comes with choosing which products for what purposes and then responsibly supporting them.
