Impact of Variations of Bluetooth Transmitting Power in the Presence of WLAN Interfering Signal

Abbas Ali Lotfi Neyestanak, Seyed Reza Jokar Naraghi · 2011

Operating frequency of both Bluetooth and Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN) or IEEE 802.11 is 2.4 GHz. In WLAN systems, spread spectrum modulation technique is used whereas in Bluetooth systems, frequency hopping within WLAN frequency range is used. If both systems operate simultaneously, their performance degrades due to the interference. In this paper, it is shown that how reduction of the network performance requires finding a relationship between power and frequency with signal interference. BER of the Bluetooth system has been obtained when it operates in the presence of WLAN systems (as an interfering signal) and therefore is modeled by an 802.11g noise source. It will be shown that how power control between base station and handsets helps to reduce interference with other users and also increase the system capacity.
