Multicarrier Modulation Using Perfect

D. Beaulieu · 2005

Multicarrier modulation techniques suchasdis- crete multitone (DMT)havebeenusedforreliable digital data transmission invarious applications, i.e. indigital subscriber line(DSL)andWi-Fiproducts. Itisa wellknownfactthat theIFFT/FFTpairinDMT provides poorspectral selectivity duetotheinsufficient sidelobe attenuation ofthesubchannel frequency response. Toremedythisproblem, we propose to useperfect reconstruction DFT filter banks(achieving perfect inter-symbol interference cancellation) instead ofDMT.Inthis case, spectral selectivity canbegreatly improved. Equalization isperformed viaazero-padding technique combined withQR factorization ofthechannel matrix. Experiments indicate that theproposed transceiver exhibits asignificant improvement in termsofachievable bitrates inanenvironment wherenarrow bandnoise dominates. I.INTRODUCTION
