Accessing protocols and network reconfigurations for cellular-ISDN systems

B. Papantoni-Kazakos · 2002

The focus of this paper is the modeling of user populations and network functions in cellular-ISDN systems, and the subsequent design of efficient accessing protocols and system reconfiguration techniques. We consider and model mixed user populations in cellular sites: regular voice, high priority-public safety, and data. Each user class imposes different constraints. We consider the functions performed in cellular-ISDN systems, and in conjunction with the user models, we discuss appropriate classes of accessing protocols for the various steps involved in accessing connections. We propose specific approaches towards the design of protocols for both the signaling and the transmission channels in cellular-ISDN islands. We also propose algorithms for monitoring changes in the cellular environments, which decide upon and subsequently implement appropriate changes in cellular architectures and protocols.>
