Reducing hot-spot contention in shared-memory multiprocessor systems

In shared-memory multiprocessor systems that use multistage interconnection networks, memory contention can produce "tree saturation", which ultimately degrades system performance. This article categorizes, reviews, and compares existing strategies for reducing these effects.
