A design technique is proposed aiming at a reduction in delta modulation (D.M.) FIR filter hardware. It is based on special manipulation of the filter coefficients, searching for simple relations between them, and also on the minimization of non-zero bits in the digitized coefficients. The method takes advantage of the special characteristics of D.M. filters in order to improve their performance concerning noise reduction. At the end of the process, a simple programming routine provides the improved D.M. filter block diagram.
